TOPIC: The Changing Face of Sun Care
ABSTRACT:
The sun care industry has experienced strong growth in recent years due to expanded product claims and material innovation targeted to meet market needs. Better educated consumers continue to demand higher SPF, improved aesthetics and now “full spectrum” coverage.
If keeping up with the consumer wasn’t difficult enough, the FDA has now proposed a new sunscreen monograph. As written, the new monograph will require future products be photostable, undergo UVA testing and include UVA performance on the label.
This presentation looks at historic and projected market growth, common product and formulation trends and the impact of the new monograph. Finally, the talk concludes with the discussion of the pro’s and con’s of some of the options to meet the requirements of the monograph.
