TOPIC: Medical Spas: Overview of an Evolving Industry
The multi billion dollar international spa industry is a major player in consumer personal care. Research analysis, economic forces, consumer trends, and changing demographics indicate tremendous opportunities and evolving business models for decades to come. In the medical spa category, the fastest growing segment, new technologies, services, products and equipment will dominate this fast moving industry.
The objective of this presentation, supported with various examples, provides an overview of national and international business trends demonstrating the diverse scope of the evolving medical spa business model.
An overview of the convergence of spa, medical, and hospitality arenas will frame discussion of projects offering aesthetic medicine, prevention and wellness programs, examples of project and product alliances, and niche opportunities for product developers.
BIO:
Ms. Gronvold is founder and director of Spectrec, a business development and marketing communications service specializing in the spa, resort, medical, and hospitality arenas. She provides a unique blend of formal business training, extensive design skills, hands-on management experience, broad global travel, a big-picture sensibility and a finely honed talent for forging alliances in the spa, hospitality and healthcare industries. Over 20 years’ of experience includes executive positions with world-renowned spa resorts such as the Golden Door in California, Rancho La Puerta in Mexico, and in the day and medical spa categories, consulting services for industry recognized projects such as The Medical Spa at Nova in Ashburn, Virginia and Obagi Skin Health Institute in Beverly Hills, California. Ongoing consulting projects are provided to various spas, medical organizations, and universities in the United States and abroad.
Actively involved in continuing education, she serves as an instructor and advisor for the Spa and Hospitality Management Certificate Program for the University of California in Irvine, one of the first in the country. In the wellness arena, Ms. Gronvold provides business and marketing development services for Maryland based Tai Sophia Institute, the preeminent academic institution for wellness-based education, clinical care, research, and public health policy discourse in the United States. Drawing people from around the world for degree and non degree programs, the Institute has pioneered wellness based continuing education programs with University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Kennedy Krieger Institute, and John Hopkins School of Medicine.
Frequently called upon for print and broadcast interviews on industry trends, Ms. Gronvold is also a regular guest speaker for various industry conferences including the International Spa Association and Reed Medical Spa Conferences in New York, Miami and Los Angeles. Her media placements for publicity and editorial have appeared in national and international publications; with projects featured on CNN, BBC, ABC, NBC, NPR and the Travel News Network and she is a contributor to UK based Spa Business Magazine, the leading international publication for the industry.
Before founding Spectrec, she graduated from the Stuart Graduate School of Business at the Illinois Institute of Technology and the eBusiness Strategy Program at the University of Chicago. Her master’s degree is in Marketing Communications and an undergraduate degree, from the University of San Diego is in Fine Arts, with emphasis in commercial graphic design.
