Education Hour Speaker for March Meeting

TOPIC: A New Look at an Old Topic - Preservation

Product preservation continues to be a hot topic for cosmetic and drug manufacturers. Although troublesome microorganisms continue to remain the same, the increased sensitivity of test methods and the use of in vitro test models suggest that some chemical preservatives may have toxicological/hormonal properties that were previously unrecognized. This has resulted in manufacturers looking for alternative means of product preservation, and in many cases this has caused difficulties in achieving adequately preserved products. Besides reviewing preservative efficacy testing and creation of self-preserving products, this presentation will take a new look at and interpreting test results to determine whether a product is adequately preserved.
