Dinner Hour Speaker for May Meeting

TOPIC: Ecocert Certification

ABSTRACT:
ECOCERT is present over 85 countries around the world, and is internationally acknowledged for its activity on Organic Farming Agriculture Certification.

Since the year 2000, ECOCERT has worked on the elaboration of the Standard for Natural and Organic Cosmetics. This Standard has been registered upon the French Ministry of Industry in 2003.

The objective of this Standard is not only to valorize the ingredients resulting from Organic Farming, and also require the use of ingredients coming from agro-resources rather than those that come from petrochemistry in a way to ensure the most the respect of the environment.

We currently certify more than 200 companies over the world, which means more than 3500 certified products.

The European Market for Natural & Organic Cosmetics has risen of 30% on 2006.

ECOCERT proposes 2 different labels:

Natural Label: 5% minimum of Organic

Certified ingredients on the total of ingredients, which represents 50% of vegetable ingredient

Natural & Organic Label: 10% minimum of Organic Certified

ingredients on the total of ingredients, which represents 95% of vegetable ingredients

For the two labels : > 95% ingredients of natural origin
