Program
The Light in Science Fellowship honors the life and legacy of Arielle Carrillo by recognizing individuals within the cosmetic science field who champion mental health awareness, emotional resilience, and well-being.  This fellowship celebrates those who not only demonstrate scientific promise but also embody the human values Arielle held close—compassion, vulnerability, and a deep commitment to lifting others up.

Eligibility
Applicants who champion mental health awareness, emotional resilience, and well-being in the beauty industry are invited to apply.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Both early-career professionals and long-time members of the California Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists
  • High school, undergraduate, or graduate students in cosmetic science or a related STEM field


Entry Criteria
Please submit the following three items:
1.  A personal essay (500–750 words) on the theme “Science & Self,” reflecting on:

  • How mental health challenges have shaped your journey in science, or
  • How have you contributed to mental wellness in academic, research, or professional environments


2.  A 1 to 2-page proposal for how the Light in Science Fellowship will be used for a mental health initiative, such as but not limited to:

  • Wellness speaker events or mindfulness workshops
  • Peer support groups or discussion circles
  • Mental health awareness campaigns in lab or educational settings

3.  A budget for how the funds will be utilized

Guy Langer Memorial Award

Guy Langer was a champion of education.  His commitment to both Para Los Niños and CaliSCC propelled students to thrive and achieve their dreams.  In his 22-years with CaliSCC, he served as Chairman, Scientific Seminar Chair, Awards Chair, Dinner Dance Co-Chair, and Education Chair.  This Award seeks to support educational programs and events that provide students with opportunities to learn about cosmetic science.  Take this chance to elevate the education of our future leaders! Apply for the Guy Langler Memorial Award and, as Guy did for so many, help move your students closer to achieving their goals in the beauty industry.

Eligibility
In the spirit of Guy's commitment to education, this award supports educational initiatives in cosmetic chemistry led by teaching institutions, including faculty and student-led clubs.   The Guy Langler Memorial Award is designed to support programs that cultivate the passion and ambition of students aspiring to enter the beauty and personal care industry.  High school, Community College, and University-affiliated programs are eligible to apply.

As the innovation center for the industry, California SCC members continually propel the industry forward with new ideas and breakthroughs.  CaliSCC supports the innovative spirit of its members and believes that education truly fuels innovation. Apply today for the Cosmetic Science Education Scholarship to advance your career and develop the next innovation in the beauty industry.

Eligibility
Open to SCC members applying to educational programs in cosmetic science.  New and student members are welcome to apply.  The scholarship will fund those seeking expertise in cosmetic science, including those at UCLA and UCR.  Those seeking support for programs that will advance their careers but are not specific to cosmetic science (e.g., Canva/Adobe, Excel, Data Science, Public Speaking, etc.) are encouraged to apply for the Upskilling Scholarship.

Entry Criteria
Submit a 500-word essay outlining the need or benefit of enrolling in the chosen educational program. The essay should articulate how the program will advance your professional development, deepen your understanding of cosmetic science, or support your career goals in the beauty industry. Applications for programs held within California will be given priority.

Do you feel like you could improve your presentation skills?  Or perhaps you would like to learn how to implement data science in your company?  The Upskilling Scholarship provides funding for applicants to expand their knowledge and skill set in areas that will improve their job performance.  Take this opportunity to advance your skills! Apply for the CASCC Upskilling Grant and elevate your career in the beauty industry.

Eligibility
Open to members of the California Society of Cosmetic Chemists (CASCC) with one or more years of continuous active membership. This award is specific to continuing education beyond, but supportive of the applicant’s career goals in cosmetic science. Examples include, but are not limited to, classes in data science, using Excel, Adobe, or Canva, and public speaking.  Those specifically seeking support for cosmetic science education are encouraged to apply to the Cosmetic Science Award.

Submit a 250-word essay outlining the need and benefit of enrolling in the chosen educational program. The essay should detail how the program will enhance your professional development and support your career aspirations in the beauty industry.  Applicants may apply to both the CASCC Upskilling Grant and the CASCC Cosmetic Science Grant; however, please note that applicants may receive only one award per year.

CASCC Scientific Seminar Travel Award

CaliSCC hosts the Scientific Seminar every two years to bring the latest industry advances to its members.  Talks, panel discussions, and a keynote speaker set the stage for an event that broadens our community's knowledge.  Take this chance to advance your professional journey! Apply for the Scientific Seminar Travel Award and move closer to your goals in the beauty industry.

Eligibility
This award is open to individuals attending CaliSCC's Scientific Seminar on September 22, 2026.  Applicants must live more than 50 miles from the event location.  Priority will be given to SCC members, including students.

The SCC National Convention is the premier event that brings all our sister chapters together for one exciting showcase of science and innovation in the industry.  Take this chance to advance your own professional journey! Eligibility
This sponsorship is open to individuals who have maintained active membership in the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) for five or more consecutive years. Applicants must also plan to attend the 2026 SCC National Convention in Los Angeles to take advantage of the networking, educational, and professional development opportunities it offers.

Society of Cosmetic Chemists Chapter Meeting Travel Stipend

Award Focus: Covers hotel, travel, and food expenses for attending a Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) chapter meeting hosted by a chapter other than the applicant’s own.
Award Amount: up to $500
Application Period: Ongoing
Award Date: One month prior to the selected chapter meeting
Total Awards: One per quarter for a total of 4 per year

Program
Learn something new from our colleagues throughout the country and expand your professional network.  There is a lot both to learn from and share with our sister chapters.  Apply for the SCC Chapter Meeting Travel Stipend and take a step forward in your career in the beauty industry.

Eligibility
Open to members of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists with active membership for at least two consecutive years. Applicants must be in good standing with the SCC and demonstrate commitment to professional growth in the field of cosmetic science. The stipend is intended to support attendance at a chapter meeting outside the applicant’s home chapter, fostering networking, knowledge exchange, and collaboration within the SCC community.

Entry Criteria
Submit a 250-word or fewer essay outlining the need or benefit of attending the chosen chapter meeting. The essay should highlight how participation will enhance your professional development, contribute to your understanding of cosmetic science, or support your career goals in the beauty industry.
